Average Path Length
I was asked to be a part of a folio exchange and exhibition focusing on the the topic Average Path Length. Each invited artist was ask to invite another artist to participate in the exchange, therefore shortening the connection of artists - the Average Path Length.
The concept for this portfolio derived from the theme of the portfolio itself. My work generally focuses on the natural environment and environmental issues; therefore, I wanted to play upon both ideas. Through the Average Path Length theory, relationships can be represented as paths connecting individuals. The number of paths from one to another can measure the distance between individuals; the average path length between any two people in the world is six relationships from each other. This same approach can be applied to nature; each aspect within nature is connected through an average path length. The aspects within the natural world, large or small, are connected; changes in the night sky effect the oceans; continental drift effects something as small as the growth of lichen.
All 26 prints in the portfolio are Unique Prints; each consisting of the same Average Path Length node printed on top of different natural environment themes. Eight different background themes make up the edition, images within a single theme vary slightly.
