Undiscovered Species Mural Project
D&M Building Plymouth State University, Plymouth, NH PSU’s Art Foundations 2D class, designed by Kimberly Ritchie, explored shape through science. Students learned about endangered New England plant species as part of the larger exhibition co-curated by Kimberly Ritchie, titled Endangered, Invasive, and Undiscovered: Species, at the Museum of the White Mountains. For inspiration students visited the PSU Greenhouse for a sketching session to study shapes. The final outcome was a colorful mural installment in the D&M building showcasing abstracted "undiscovered species" shapes from cut vinyl. The mural accompanied the exhibition and highlighted undiscovered species as a part of the exhibition focus in order to showcase the unknown elements of how earth systems work, to explore what we don't know or understand, and to emphasize that there are still species that have yet to be discovered.
