Excited to have my Monhegan Algae Studies work up in the juried exhibit WILD at Gallery263 in Cambridge, Mass. These pieces were made on Monhegan Island in Maine using seaweed from the shore. The prints are cyanotypes that were directly exposed by the seaweed.

While my time on the island was short, it was highly productive. I completed a set of artist books titled LAND + SKY, and VATN. VATN means water in Icelandic. Iceland is rich with water: cold water, hot springs water, boiling lake water, glaciers, glacier rivers, hot spring rivers, the seas and so on and so on. Until you have lived in a place where water is limited, such as the American West you may not really understand how precious it is (or at least I didn't growing up on the East Coast). Gullkistan Center for Creativity is located on a lake on the touristy but magical Golden Circle. What continues to awe me about Iceland is that you can stand on a black sand beach and look at the rocks and ocean, turn your head and behind you see a mountain with a glacier on top, and on top of that in the sky, the Northern Lights (which I did not see the entire week I was there... so that gives me an excuse to go again, right?!). Three artist books, titled, collectively: VATN (GLACIER, LAKE, RIVER, OCEAN) are about that: Water from the Glacier - to the River- to the Sea Water from the Stream - to the Lake - back to the Stream Water from the Mountains - to the Hot Spring Rivers - and Beyond Started my residency at Gullkistan Center for Creativity in Iceland today. Second time at an Artist Residency in Iceland and looking forward to exploring this beautiful country more. New Artist Book in the making... Land + Sky Returning and regrouping from my artist residency at Skopelos Art Foundation on Skopelos Island in Greece, supported through a university grant. It was a beautiful printmaking studio and location on the Aegean Sea. While there I focused on local environmental concerns, sea plastic. Artwork was created in response to the sea glass and sea plastic that I collected while walking the rock beach every evening. Skopelos Town and Skopart Print Studio I'm on sabbatical this semester at PSU. Looking forward to upcoming art residencies in Greece and back to Iceland. Busy working in the studio on new work. Currently working on collaboration prints with Fawn Atencio at Songlines Press.
Finally got to see these floating icebergs come to life in my installment, Iceberg Alley, in this year's PSU Art Faculty exhibit FRESH. The iceberg shapes were created when I was at NES Artist Residency. A year later, I was accepted into a residency at Terra Nova National Park so I could witness, study, and be inspired by Iceberg Alley. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend but still dream of visiting Iceberg Alley in Newfoundland, Canada. Worked again with my FYS students this year in researching endangered plant species in New England, then planned, created, and installed the exhibition UPROOTED to bring awareness to the 6th extinction. Prints up for the portfolio exchange "Frontera" at the Mid America Print Council Conference at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming!
Thank you Husson University and Professor Kathi Smith for the amazing artist visit!
